The sheriff's office cautions that you should not depend solely on VINE for your protection. If you feel at risk, take steps as if the offender has already been released. VINE is a tool, not a guarantee.

Houston County Jail Roster and Public Data
The Houston County jail roster is public data under Minnesota Statute 641.05. The sheriff keeps a register of every person booked into the jail. That register shows names, ages, dates, and why the person is being held. Statute 13.82 and Statute 13.85 also apply, making booking records and correctional facility data accessible to the public.
Under Statute 387.03, the sheriff runs the jail and maintains the peace across the county. Chief Deputy Bill Hargrove and Jail Administrator Rachel Meyer handle daily operations. The office answers to the people of Houston County and keeps jail data open as required by law.
Note: Volunteers play a big role in programming at the Houston County Jail. Contact the jail administrator at ext. 4120 if you are interested in helping.

Houston County is in the far southeastern corner of the state, bordering both Iowa and Wisconsin. Arrests near the state lines can sometimes mean the person ends up in a different state's jail rather than the Houston County jail roster. If you can't find someone, call the Justice Center at 507-725-3379 and ask. Staff can check whether the person was booked locally or might be held elsewhere. The County Attorney's office, also in the Justice Center, handles prosecution for cases that come out of Houston County bookings.
